The Raftery Arden Sunday League dinner was held on Friday 13th October at JB's on Damson Parkway. This was to prove an excellent venue for a night of celebration. Having won the 1st XI title and 2nd XI runners-up, a strong SMCC contingent filled 3 tables - all dressed in their finest threads.
However, the well-kept secret was that two of SMCCs young players had also won awards - Jack Hemming picking up the prestigious "2nd XI Player of the Season" award (and a cheque for £75) whilst Matt Lawrence was the inaugural winner of the "Young Player of the Season" award. Both have had tremendous personal seasons, and this was much deserved recognition. County trials in October may lead to further development of their talents.
With some 'inspirational' speeches given by RASL Committee members, and an entertaining spot from Ian 'Sludge' Lees, it was a superb evening (or at least what we remember of it).
