Victory at Foliot Fields in first
friendly fixture
SMCC entertained the Wythall Park 3rd XI on Easter Sunday in the first
fixture of 2003. The visitors elected to bat and struggled to 129 thanks
largely to 66 from one of the openers. Steve Reynolds took 4 wickets for
a miserly 6 runs. In reply, Martin Weir and Naz Ali posted over 50 for
the first wicket before Naz was caught behind. Martin went on to make
a fine unbeaten 76 whilst new skipper Matt Lawrence also made 30. SMCC
won by 8 wickets.
The coming weekend sees two fixtures against Birmingham League new boys Coleshill, with a Sunday visit to St. Georges for the 1st XI and the 2nd XI hosting Bournville.
