The first "SMCC Cricket School" was held at the beginning of the school summer holidays at Foliot Fields. Organised by Stuart Lawrence, the idea was to provide a structured week of fun coaching for SMCC Juniors. At a cost of £30, the parents received peace and quiet, as well as top quality cricket coaching for their youngsters. Keith Rondeau assisted greatly in the organisation, and lent his excellent coaching skills to the week. Products of SMCC's own junior scheme were in attendance to help out - Andy Wier, Jack Hemming and Matt Lawrence to name a few. Thanks also to the parents who helped out greatly, particularly the Weirs, the Westwoods, the Froggatts, and all the others. The final afternoon, which was as hot as the rest of the week, saw the keenly contested "Mums vs U11s" in which the Mums, captained by surrogate mother Will Hemming, stole a stunning victory from the final ball. To follow was the "Coaches vs U15s & their Dads" which threatened to be postponed (until the bar was closed). Although at times close, the Coaches won reasonably easily, a plethora of 6s being hit by the senior SMCC players on show. A fine week was had by all, and we look forward to the same again next year. Below are a few pictures from the final afternoon. Click on the thumbail for a larger version + caption. |
