The first ever SMCC Talent Night was held on Friday 20th July. Organised
by Pat Tarry, the night had been in the pipeline for several months,
and was the subject of much speculation. Not only were there members
of SMCC prepared to get up and perform, but the mysterious message board
member "The Alien" (left) had promised to reveal him/herself.
The standard of acts was excellent, backed up by an excellent singer/guitarist
where necessary. The opening Irish Dancing act held a large audience
captive as the young performer did her stuff, setting the standard for
the evening.
To follow was Steve Eaves' Australian rendition of "Hey Mr. Fisherman",
complete with his very own SMCC references ! Again a good act, which
drew applause and laughter from the crowd.
Ex-SMCC barmaid Geraldine continued the singing theme with an excellent
rendition of "I Will Survive" and was good enough to come
back for an encore.
The final, and much vaunted act, was the duo of cricketers Rob Nicholls
and Tom Hemming. Despite a late start (after a lot of "Dutch Courage")
they performed "Wonderwall" by Oasis, and their Beatles Medley
was stopped by an unfortunate power cut !! Tom followed with "Time
of Your Life" and an amusing cover of "Baby One More Time"
before nerves got the better of him. The final attempt, en masse
at "American Pye" was, thankfully, cut short.
So until next year, all we have to remind us are the pictures below....
